3 Little Bears

3 Little Bears sits at 3,870 feet, which is about as high as you can stay in Gatlinburg. The views are mountain and valley from up here, and they get better in winter once the leaves are down.

Ober Gatlinburg is minutes away. In ski season you can be on the slopes and back in front of the fire inside half an hour, which is not something most Gatlinburg condos can offer.

Two bedrooms and two bathrooms, sleeping four. The main bedroom has a queen bed and its own bathroom; the second has two twin beds.

The living room has a wood-burning fireplace rather than gas, so it's a real fire. Bring your own wood for it. There's a full kitchen, wifi, air conditioning and a desk if you need to work for an hour.

The complex has an indoor pool that's open all year, and an outdoor pool in the warmer months. Parking is free on site.

Worth knowing before you book

• The road up is a mountain road, with the bends and grades that come with being this high. In winter that's part of the appeal, but check your tyres and allow extra time in bad weather.
• The pools belong to the complex rather than to this condo, so they're shared with other guests and they run on the complex's schedule.

There are exterior security cameras on the property, covering the outside areas only.
